Pipelines in Canada
Canadian pipelines are systems of pipelines that are connected from sources of gases and liquids which are delivered to the marketplace. These pipelines are connected across long distances, containing more than 840,000 kilometres which criss-cross across the Country. A huge part of the gas and oil sector employs many Canadians. There are approximately 100,000 to 200,000 Canadians employed.
Climate Change Issues
There seems to be a lot of controversy regarding Canadian pipelines. The pipelines’ use of fossil fuel may be a contributing factor to climate change. Many groups such as environmentalists, indigenous groups and government levels have been opposed to creating new pipelines for fear of spills and leakages that could potentially contaminate waterways.
When a pipeline source decides to discontinue the operating part or all of a pipeline, they must inform the natural energy board. A company may make an application regarding a pipeline to either decommission, abandon or deactivate it.
Economic Benefits of The Trans Mountain Expansion Project
The Trans Mountain Expansion Project has been approved by the Canadian Government. The Canadian Government feels that Canadians would greatly benefit from this project. The project would create thousands of jobs for middle-class Canadians. The expansion will also generate much more revenue for the various government levels.
How Does The Canadian Pipeline Work?
There are numerous long lengths of connected pipes that also have control devices, valves and pumps. These systems are designed to convey gases or liquids through a pipeline network that transports the products from a production well to refineries and processing plants. The recipients of the products then remove any contaminants or water from fossil fuel. The trunk line consists of large diameter pipes.
This is the main part of the pipelines. Pump stations provide the energy needed to overcome friction in the pipes for liquids and gases require compressor stations to provide the energy needed to overcome friction in the pipes.
